2006 F250 Superduty.
When I plug in my horse trailer to my new 2006 F250 Super Duty the back up lights come on on the truck. All tariler lights and the factory brake controller seem normal.
Any suggestions?
Thanks,

Either the truck or the trailer has been wired to a non-standard pin configuration. Are you using the 7-way factory plug on the back of your truck? If so, its got a pin function schematic right on the cover plate. Make sure its correct and then go after the trailer. From what you describe, I'm thinking the trailer has its charging wire hooked to the center pin and the breakaway battery is backfeeding the reverse lights on the truck. If you are looking into the trailer plug, the charge wire should be the 11 O'clock pin (which is the 1 O'clock pin when looking into the receptacle on the truck. Of course I based this on the assumption that you are using a 7-way RV style plug, so I hope I haven't wasted your time. Anyway, good luck and let me know if you need any more help.

def something screwy going on. the trailer plug on the truck should not have any connection to the backup lights. no trailer of any size is required to have backup lights. look for some sort of non stock modification to the truck wiring.

Sounds like you're just going to have to trace the wiring out with a test light. My gooseneck horse trailer has factory backup lights and even my old '91 F-250 came with factory trailer wires above the rear bumper but I can't remember positively if one wire was for tlr. backup lights, it's been years ago but I sure don't remember having to splice into the B.U. lite circuit. Don't know about the latest, but all through the years horse/stock trailers were known for never having a standard wiring diagram at the trailer plug. They always had to be traced and correctly mated to the truck plug.

The center pin in the trucks 7-way connector is the back-up light wire. This has been a standard configuration for a long time, and factory wired trucks have been made this way since the latter 90's. I realize that a vast majority of trailers don't have this feature, but the trucks have been wired for it for a long time. -- P.S. I wish more trailers did have them.

Do the backup lights come on as soon as you plug in the trailer or only when you turn on marker lights, tail lights, brake lights, etc? If that's the case then you most likely have a crossfeed between 2 wires. Otherwise I would look for a backfeed from the trailer battery, as already suggested.

You guy's are the best.
Trouble was the trailer was backfeeding 12v to the centerpin on the truck.
Moved the Aux Feed and all is good!
Thanks,

I realize you have solved your problem, but I didn't see anyone explain the reason for the reverse feed on the trailer plug. The reason it is there is because some surge brake actuators have an electric reverse lockout connection so that the trailer brakes won't get applied when you are trying to back the trailer up. If you've ever tried to back a trailer with surge brakes uphill (without the reverse lockout), you'll know exactly what I am talking about.

That makes sense. My wife took one of our old trailers and parked on a slight downhill and I got the call that something was wrong with the trailer!
Thanks again,

I understand this is an old thread, but I am having the same problem with my '06 SD. I'm not at all mechanically minded but I can follow instructions very well. That's to say, if you could give me instructions on how you fixed this, I can follow them. In other words, I have no idea how "moving the Aux Feed" is accomplished. Thanks so much.

You need to move the 12v charge wire on the trailer connector to mate up to the aux feed on the 7 pin on the truck. the diagram is on the 7 pin or the cover for it.
